Carroll Music Holiday 2015 Newsletter
Happy Holidays from the crew at Carroll Music. We hope you and yours are having a rockin’ holiday season. We’re getting our heavy coats ready to deliver top of the line music equipment to your events, and we’re keeping our facilities nice and warm for your rehearsals during these Winter months.
2015 has been a great year for us, and we’re truly thankful to all of our wonderful friends and clients, new and old. We hope to serve you even better in 2016! We’ve been around since 1945 for a reason, and we will continue to evolve as the industry changes.
Here’s a brief recap of how we’re finishing off the year. We hope you enjoy reading about all the cool artists and events we’ve been catering to, as well as some new gear that we’ve added to our inventory. Ho ho ho!
We’re very psyched to be supplying tons of orchestral percussion for “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” playing at the legendary Grand Ol Opry in Nashville, TN now through the end of December. Our very own percussion tech, Russ Nyberg, is performing on this show on the drum kit.
We were pumped to have Chance the Rapper and his band in for several days of rehearsals ahead of his performance on Saturday Night Live on December 12th. They sounded great in our studios, and had a great performance on the show.
It’s was awesome having Sara Bareilles and her band and crew in for 2 days of rehearsals in November. They were preparing to play a show at City Center. She also recently released a new album, “What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress.”
In October, not only did we have Seth MacFarlane in for rehearsals, we also supplied a lot of gear for his performance on “The Today Show,” including our Lyon and Healy concert harp, Yamaha piano, drum kit, guitar and bass amps, celesta, chairs, music stands, and LED clip lights. The performer and our gear sounded great! His new album, “No One Ever Tells You” was released on September 30th.
We’ve also had the pleasure of having a diverse group of exciting talents either in for rehearsals, or we’ve supplied them with equipment for their performances over the last few months. This list includes: Max Weinberg, Jane Krakowski, Spoon, Neko Case, Band of Merrymakers, Chick Corea, The Doobie Brothers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Smokey Robinson, Phish, Ed Sheeren, Aloe Black, Bill Withers, Yo La Tengo, Yoko Ono, Ron Carter, and the musicals, “Invisible Thread,” “School of Rock,” “On Your Feet,” and “Allegiance.”
Our massive marimba inventory is always growing and evolving. We recently added a Korogi 4.3 octave rosewood marimba. This L800 model was made in Japan and is in excellent condition. It adds to our fleet of other marimbas such as our Marimba One 4.6 and 5 octaves, Musser, DeMarrow, and various Yamaha marimbas.
We’ve added a top of the line, brand new, 5 string Deering Goodtime Midnight Special banjo to our inventory. This American made banjo has a violin grade maple 3-ply rim and sounds amazing. Give Carroll Music a call next time you need a great banjo for your gig or rehearsal!
Carroll Music is proud to be one of the largest vintage percussion rental companies in the tri-state area. Here’s one of our pre-war drum kits assembled with various items from the 1920s and 30s that would be standard to see during this era, including much larger kick/bass drums like this 28″ Ludwig bass drums, Chinese tom drums, and low boys, (hi hat cymbals played with your foot.) These sets have been used performance purposes, and on many TV shows as props, such as “Boardwalk Empire.”
Professional quality road cases are unsung heroes in the backline rental industry. Thank you to our good friend Coy at C & D Cases in NJ for the great work (as always) making us some new keyboard, amplifier, and Fender Rhodes cases. Let the good times roll!
