August 2014 Newsletter
The dog days of Summer are here, but that’s no reason to complain. Just think back to March when the unending days of sleet and snow just never seemed to end. We hope you’ve had a chance to get out to the beach, have a BBQ, go to a baseball game, or whatever your favorite Summer activity may be. Since our last newsletter, our rehearsal studios have stayed rocking with a wide array of performers, assisted by their respective crews. We’ve had so many exciting folks come through our facility, and we’ve stayed busy delivering gear to our clients at their respective gigs. This is a power packed newsletter, so we hope you enjoy reading about what’s new with us. Also, slowly but surely, we’ve been adding lots of pictures of all our gear to our website, along with updated master lists, which can be found at www.carrollmusic.com Check out guitar amps, bass amps, and keyboards just for starters. We’re always changing with the industry, that’s why we’ve been around since 1945.
Our annual tradition of supplying all backline for the 4Knots Festival, (formerly known as Siren Fest) continued this year as we supplied drums, bass amps, guitar amps, and tons of other items for an exciting group of performers. Held at the South St. Seaport in Manhattan, headliners this year included Dinosaur Jr. and Mac DeMarco.
On August 14th, we catered audio and ran sound for a very special event in Times Square called, “Keep the Spirit of ‘45 Alive,” which commemorated the end of World War 2.
Carroll Music is a go to source for Broadway rehearsals and gear rentals. In late May, we catered all backline for a performance of over 20 different Broadway shows, called, “Stars in the Alley,” which featured all the hits from “The Lion King,” to “Chicago,” to many others in anticipation of the Tony Awards.
We also catered all backline for a performance by actor Michael Fassbender on the Colbert Report, where another notable actress, Maggie Gyllenhaal, played our brand new Korg MS-20 synthesizer.
Other notable clients we have catered to over the Summer include the Broadway Musical,”The Snow Queen,” Jimmy Fallon, The Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars, Michael Feinstein, Macy Gray, Jose Feliciano, and Prince Royce!
Our massive keyboard inventory grew even larger recently as we’ve added 2 brand new Korg Kronos X 88 keyboards. These super versatile workstations can double as an excellent MIDI controller. Even cooler is the touch screen and real weighted hammer action keyboard.

We’ve added a brand spanking new DW cocktail drum kit in a pale blue oyster finish to our inventory. This kit is played standing up, and though its not extremely common to see, some lounge and jazz drummers really like them, such as Steve Jordan and Peter Erskine.

Our guitar department continues to blossom with a real beauty; a brand new, out of the box,Takamine TC132SC acoustic/electric nylon-stringed, classical guitar. This sweet baby has a built in tuner, built in EQ, and volume control.
We recently had a full refurbish done to our 1940’s Musser Century 100 4-octave marimba by Gilberto at Century Mallet in Chicago. This instrument has the exact same specs as the Deagan Diana 40. (Musser worked for Deagan in Chicago in the 40’s, left the company, and started Musser 5 blocks down the street!) This vintage, American made marimba has the top of the line sound you’d expect from this legendary manufacturer.
